Sensei Anthony D. Lingo, Shihan:

Is a professional Martial Arts Instructor, specializing in teaching the Arts of karate known as Nisei Goju Ryu Karate Do; a modern version of To-Te Jitsu & Okinawan Naha Te (DI) mixed with the Urban Goju version of American/Japanese traditional Philosophical Karate training (Shaolin Ryu), who began his Martial Art training in 1963 at Seabrooks New Jersey.

His intense thirty-nine year, formal study of the history and philosophy of karate-do has led to the instruction of over 6,000 students in America and Abroad. And his documentation of the traditions, history, culture and techniques of the martial arts has led to numerous writings, newspaper, magazine articles, radio, television appearances and lectures on the subject. His dynamic teaching style is considered by many to be one of the premier instructors of his generation and was given the title of “A Living Legion” by the Nippon Kempo Karate Do Jitsu – Ha (Washington DC. 1994).

An Eight-degree Black Belt (May 2001), Lingo is internationally known as a tournament fighter and full contact competitor, Master Instructor, coach and judge. Sensei Lingo focuses his teaching energies on instructor development training for the New Jersey State Black Belt Association as the State Association’s Chief Instructor. Lingo also maintains professional contracts teaching Martial Arts Behavioral Modification; Educational Development Programs for the Board of Education at Camden City High Schools and the Rutgers University Charter High school and Elementary Charter schools as well as an array of other educational and community institutes. In these positions the objective is teaching private and public organizations to successfully apply martial arts principles and strategies to a broad range of life’s professional, personal, and interpersonal challenges.

Sensei Lingo is also well-known for his Self Defense Conferences and Seminars traveling extensively teaching an acclaimed innovative and dynamic Universal Self defense Program entitled, “When to Walk Away, When to Run, and When to Stay and Fight.” Sensei Lingo, also was the first Black Belt Certified by the FBI to teach Police training in both police baton weapons training, and empty hand non-forceful, crowd control self-defense tactics in Southern New Jersey (1974). He has taught law enforcement and military personnel at numerous Police Academy’s as well as at NAFETC National Airforce Experimental Training Center (Pomona NJ).

Currently, Sensei Lingo Directs one of the Oldest and longest running University collegiate Martial Arts Training Programs in the country and is purported to be the first to teach Karate and Martial Arts for actual university course credit at Rutgers University at Camden, NJ, since 1968. Founder and the Chief Instructor of the Fairview Dojo, it is the oldest continually operating Karate Dojo in Camden City (1980).

Lastly, Sensei Tone Lingo, has been a founder or one of the founding fathers of any number of Martial Arts Organizations; to spread a higher degree of professionalism in the Arts. A few such successful organizations are the Cumberland County Martial Arts Federation, The New Jersey karate Alliance, Garden State Black Belt Association, United Martial Arts Referees Association (U.M.A.R.A.), Federation Interstate State Tournaments (F.I.S.T.) and The New Jersey State Black Belt Association (NJSBBA). An inductee into many “Black Belt Halls of Fame”, he and his Instructor Dr. Joseph Artesi, Tenth Dan, have produced some of the top competitors on the East Coast and Abroad and hold the distinction of being listed as once operating the largest Dojo in the United States, the Olympic Center, Bridgeton NJ (Emil Farkus – Karate History 1970-Encyclopedia).
